This course aims to provide an overview of the framework of global law. Processes of globalisation and decentralisation of decision-making have increasingly expanded local dynamics beyond the traditional territorial boundaries of state actors. International and transnational organisations have increasingly been involved in transnational areas including finance, technology, the environment and migration. This transformation of law raises questions about how to interpret the role of democratic institutions or the protection of rights from the transnational dimension. This course starts with a focus on global law and then moves to underline processes of internationalisation and constitutionalisation, including examples as the European Union.
