History of Political Ideas

3 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese

This course essentially aims to deepen and consolidate the students’ cultural background, by bringing them in contact with the ways in which the modern State’s ideological foundations were created. Because it is a course within a Law degree, the course is particularly geared toward students interested in specialising in public law. It details the ideological context of the fundamental institutions of Constitutional Law and Administrative Law (separation of powers, fundamental rights, right of resistance, democracy, legitimacy of exercising power, etc.). The course outline stops with the Russian Revolution due to time constraints and the existence of other courses focused on contemporary political thought.
