Its goals are to be a multidisciplinary and innovative research group that will play a significant role in the juridical revolution that has been triggered by the artificial intelligence. The following are just some examples which highlight the point: revival of the debate on legal personality, revision of the paradigms of contractual and extra-contractual civil liability, revisiting of contractual processes, the need to reflect on procedural law, the inevitability of enhancing personal data protection and consumer rights protection, reforms needed due to innovation in mobility, the protection determined by new forms of assisting vulnerable persons, restructuring of the employment market and labour relations, reconceptualising of the means of funding social security and of the methods for taxing income, reconfiguration of the reach of intellectual property rights, adapting of competition law, adjustments in environmental law frameworks, reformulation of urban planning, reform of the State, reconsideration of security and defence structures, the legal contextualisation of conquering space and exploration of the oceans, reflection on the boundaries of criminal law, a new understanding of international phenomena of a public or private nature and of the respective legal solutions, renewed debate on the general protection of fundamental rights.

The debate which will follow – involving, to name just some, the fields of engineering, the neurosciences, bioethics, philosophy, theology, sociology, psychology or economic and business sciences – will play a key role in considering the different approaches of Law to the social and ethical dilemmas that artificial intelligence raises. Therefore, this group includes reputed researchers in Law and other areas, from Catholic University and other renowned institutions (as is the case of Instituto Superior Técnico and the Lisbon Faculty of Medicine).
