This course focuses primarily on special security and the principles that govern it. Firstly, students analyse security over property and, subsequently, (personal) guarantees. Afterwards, students identify the instances in which creditors acquire or retain a right within their legal sphere to protect their credit. Lastly, students are made aware of other instruments that can equally serve as security. Students are also expected to grasp the overarching frameworks that govern the Portuguese laws of security by studying those selected for this course. For this reason, the course draws to a close by detailing the concept of security for obligations and the principles that govern it. Students are, thereby, equipped with the skills and critical thinking necessary to grasp new concepts that legal practice, now and in the future, will always through their way.
