The Católica | Lisbon School of Law and Católica Global School of Law are looking for candidates with a promising record of scholarly publications and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, to apply for the Abreu Professorship in International Business Law.

Job description
Católica will be hiring one scholar for a position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor.

The chair is supported by a grant from Abreu Advogados, one of Portugal’s largest and most prestigious law firms. It is a full-time joint appointment between the Católica | Lisbon School of Law and Católica Global School of Law. Candidates should be prepared to teach across a wide range of topics within the field of International Business Law at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, in particular in our LL.M. International Business Law. Preferred areas of specialization include corporate law and governance, financial law and fintech, competition law, electronic commerce, market regulation, investment law and dispute resolution. The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise and discuss master’s theses and may be assigned coordination tasks.

The holder of the chair will become a member of the Católica Research Centre for the Future of Law – a research unit within Católica that is committed to pursuing interdisciplinary and transnational research in law – and should also be available to take part in conferences and seminars promoted by Abreu Advogados or its Knowledge Institute.

We offer an academic position for a period of three years. In case of good performance, a permanent position may be offered at the end of the three-year period.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with a European and international approach to the law and with research in one or more areas of business law. Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Holders of a doctoral degree;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. A passive or working knowledge of Portuguese is valued, but is not mandatory;
  • Experience in academic teaching and supervision;
  • Experience in designing new courses and seminars;
  • Good interpersonal skills and a strong capacity to establish relationships with students and fellow academics in an international and culturally diverse environment.
