Sandra Martins Pereira

Bio

Dr. Sandra Martins Pereira obtained her Ph.D. and Master in Bioethics at UCP. She was awarded a Marie Curie post-doctoral research training fellowship in palliative and end-of-life care at the Vrije Universiteit Medisch Centrum Amsterdam, Netherlands. She was visiting researcher at the End-of-Life Care Research Group, Vrije Universiteit Brussels, and Bioethics Institute Ghent, Ghent University, Belgium; at the King’s College London, UK; at the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain; and at the Klinik für Palliativmedizin, Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, Germany. Between 2003 and 2013, she was Associate Professor at Universidade dos Açores. She has two bachelor degrees: Education Sciences (Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, University of Porto) and Nursing (1996).

She is Vice-President of the European Association for Palliative Care (2019-2023); Screening Editor for Palliative Medicine (SAGE); and evaluator for European funding agencies (e.g., FWO, Belgium; ESF, France). Dr. Martins Pereira is FCT Principal Investigator at the Research Center in Management and Economics. She is Co-Principal Investigator of the area of Sustainability and Ethics, where she conducts research in palliative and end-of-life care, empirical bioethics, health services and outcomes research with vulnerable populations, and clinical ethics.
