Course Load Information
Exchange Students are free to choose their courses and can enroll in a maximum of 36 ECTS each semester. Class presence is mandatory and Students are to attend at least two-thirds of all classes.
Grading System
The grading system in use is from 0 until 20, being 10 the cut-off for passing. Some seminars may use a Pass / Fail system.
Credit System
ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System).
Language Courses
Portuguese Language Courses as a Foreign Language are available through the School of Human Sciences of the University.
VISA
EU/EEA / Switzerland Citizens: Valid national Identity Card or Passport and the European Health Insurance Card.
Non-European (Non-EU) Citizens: For stays longer than three months, non-EU students need to apply for a Student Visa in their home country or country of residence before entry into Portugal.
- Visas must be requested at the Portuguese diplomatic mission or consulate before leaving the home country – Consular affairs / Visa requests (more information).
- A Student Visa may take up to 2-3 months to be completed.
- The authority in Portugal responsible for the Visa issuance is the Foreigners and Borders Service (Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras).
Depending on the nationality, duration of the stay and type of service one is applying for, some or all of the following standard documents may be required:
- Passport valid for 3 months after the date of return and with at least one blank page;
- Application form;
- Two color passport-size photographs;
- Acceptance Letter issued by Católica;
- Proof of sufficient means of support;
- Proof of health insurance coverage including repatriation;
- Criminal Record;
- Proof of Accommodation.
Health Insurance
European Union (EU) Citizens, have access to the National Health services (public hospitals) by showing a valid European Health Insurance Card. One will be charged the same fee as a Portuguese citizen.
Non-European Union (Non EU) Citizens, need a valid International Insurance. One shall confirm with the service provider the coverage and the Health units.
