Introduction to the Study of Law

11 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese

The goal of the course is to introduce students, most of which are new to undergraduate studies, to the legal system and Law in general. To this end, students are given a fundamental understanding of the building blocks of the Law, including the central elements of the legal normative system, the issue of coercion and protection under the Law and the matter of unjust Law and the relationship between the legal system and other norms, in particular moral norms. Furthermore, the course aims to highlight the importance – from the outset of the undergraduate degree – of being able to think about legal issues, while endowing students with the basic methodological tools to analyse legal matters.
