Learning outcomes

The course aims to equip students with knowledge about globalization phenomena and international trade, as well as to develop scientific reasoning regarding its advantages, risks, and conflicting values.

Programmatic contents

I – Economic Perspective

• Globalization: facts, concepts, and relevance.
• Benefits of globalization: Trade patterns and the distribution of trade gains—who wins and who loses? Intra-industry trade and value chains. Multilateralism versus regionalism.
• Globalization, the Great Recession, the pandemic, and geopolitical instability: What about the future?

II – Legal Perspective

• Principles of free trade.
• Regulation of international trade: Special focus on the WTO and EU systems. Exceptions to the principle of free trade.
• Conflict resolution.
